Description The full story Elwahid – Sword of the Sands Those raised in the bloody badlands of Sudd Tohst often emerge in adulthood as calloused, jaded individuals. Self-centered mindsets grasp all who live in this “kill-or-be-killed” land, where blood and money are so often exchanged. In this society, men like Elwahid excel. Those who have made “kill-or-be-killed” words to live by, where their mindset pays for their livelihoods and each paycheque is written in blood. Sellswords litter the landscape, for few nobles and sheikhs have standing armies, so Elwahid and his kind are always in high demand. It was during his employment by Sultan Hakim that Elwahid came to see his philosophies challenged. The Siege of Hinatal, of which he joined as an assaulter, was a bloodbath. He was lucky to survive, as many of his comrades were turned to ash or gutted on the walls. Elwahid was lucky to only be wounded, tended to by Clerics of Unity as he was cuffed. For weeks he lay recovering in a jail cell, a luxury compared to the conditions suffered by most others. For Elwahid had always learned his tongue should be as sharp as his sword, and had charmed his way into a lone holding cell reserved for nobles. After his recovery, when heads began rolling among his comrades, he begun to sweet talk the guards, then the warden, and finally the judge who would offer Elwahid amnesty in exchange for service. For half a decade he would serve as a soldier of Hinatal, bound by its rules and customs, or pay with his life. Agreeing to these terms, Elwahid served. His lavish lifestyle afforded by the highest bidder was now reduced to sleeping in a crowded barracks and sharing meals in a mess hall. Yet, strangely, the sensation grew on him. No longer was he a slave to coin, and instead found himself invested in the wellbeing of the Hinatali people, having fought for them when the forces of Mindoriel besieged the city years after. Again they tended his wounds, and made him feel as though he belonged, simply for carrying a sword in their name. His five years have almost passed, yet he does not know if he will find the will to leave when the time comes.
